June 25, 2011 - Self Portraits

I hate taking pictures of myself but recently I've been following the "Selfie Magic" blog and it has inspired me to get in the front of the camera more often.  So today after getting myself all pretty (at least the best I could do) I decided to take a few shots before my adventure of making freezer jam.

The one problem that I have is I don't have a remote trigger so focusing wasn't that easy.  Here are a couple, I'm not to thrilled with them.  Let's hope I get better.

June 24, 2011 - More flower power

My daisies and lilies are all a bloom and of course had to get a few photos with my new 50mm lens.
I will be cutting some of these tomorrow to put in vases so the house smells nice.  It's amazing how fast these flowers spread.  the lilies I started with just three plants two years ago and I now have over twenty of them!

June 21, 2011 - Flower Power

If you can't tell I love flowers.  One of my favorite quotes is, "The Earth Laughs in Flowers."  I love the colors, shapes and smells.  Yesterday me and the hubby walked Stoney Creek and Metro Park and I captured this beautiful daisy (I think that is what it is).  It's funny how as kids we don't appreciate all the nature that surrounds us and then we become adults and realize how blessed we are that we can enjoy these beautiful sights.

June 20, 2011 - Country Days

This tractor is just down the road from our house.  A couple times I have driven by it and thought, "man that would make a nice photo."  Well today my husband and I were driving by it and he asked me if I wanted him to pull over so I could take a photo.  So here it is finally.  I took this with my new 50mm lens and just love it!

June 17, 2011 - Me and my new lens

I was so excited today that I got a new lens for my camera.  I've been wanting the 50mm lens for portrait photography.  I really wanted the f1.4 but it was out of my price range so I told my husband the f1.8 is what I wanted for my birthday.  He had been telling me it was on back order and I probably wouldn't get it for my birthday (I'll punish him later for that)!  So I was very happy when I started opening my gifts and I saw the box, oh those nice Canon boxes we all love.

I took this photo of my roses as a practice shot.  Tomorrow I'll be doing more practice shots so me and my 50mm can get to know each other.

Good night for now.

June 11, 2011 - I hate bees, wasps and anything that stings!!

If you know me you know that I HATE bees, wasps and anything that stings.  As I was sitting on the patio waiting for my friendly little hummingbirds to come back I saw this, yikes!!  Then I thought, you little bugger you would make a neat photo!

Here is the Ruby Red Throated Hummingbird, love these little creatures.

June 11, 2011 - What is the symbol of a pink rose?

As I embarked on my little adventure at this beautiful church today I had to take a photo of the pink roses.

It is interesting to note that the most traditional connotation of pink roses is of a mother's love for her child. A story has it that when Mary first saw her son Jesus carrying the cross to which he would later be crucified, she shed a tear.
That tear fell on the barren ground and from that very tear, grew the very first and most perfect pink rose.
Perhaps, this is why in the Talmud, it is written that only pink roses are allowed to bloom in Jerusalem and as a result, pink roses have come to be a symbol of paradise as well.

May 31, 2011 - Graduation Day

"The difference between school and life?  In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test.  In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson."   -Tom Bodett

Yesterday was graduation day for Melanie, my lovely step-daughter.  She graduated with honors and we are so proud of her.  Now she begins her journey on deciding where to go to college and pursuing her dreams to enter into animation for Pixar.  Good job Melanie!
